Natural Resources Wales (NRW) commissioned Dr Charlotte Armitage on a number of projects over the past five years. Throughout this period, Charlotte has consistently demonstrated the highest standards of professionalism, expertise and dedication, delivering work of exceptional quality. We have greatly valued her contributions and look forward to working with her again on future projects.

Most recently, Charlotte led a project using Stable Isotope Analysis to investigate the diet of a red squirrel population in a forest in north-east Wales. This represented Phase 2 of a programme of work initiated the previous year and also incorporated two comparison sites within another red squirrel focal site in Wales.

Charlotte was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the project, including securing and liaising with an appropriate laboratory for sample analysis, obtaining quotations, coordinating a local volunteer group to collect relevant food samples, analysing the resulting data, and producing the final scientific evidence report in accordance with NRW’s reporting requirements. The report has since been published and provides valuable evidence to support our understanding of red squirrel ecology in Wales.

Charlotte’s ability to manage complex projects efficiently, engage effectively with stakeholders and volunteers, and deliver robust scientific outputs makes her a highly valued consultant and collaborator.

We commissioned Dr Charllotte Armitage, to carryout complexed analyses of dormice population in a well know woodland managed by Natural Resources Wales.

Charlotte was exceptionally well-positioned to undertake this work, as her PhD equipped her with extensive experience in ecological field methods, statistical analysis, and study design. She is a highly capable, innovative, and dedicated researcher with the skills, insight, and drive to make a significant contribution to eco-physiological science.

Beyond her academic achievements, she has continued to engage actively with NRW, not only through her commissioned research but also by contributing to ongoing management strategies and advising on future research directions.

Applied several methods of evaluating to test the robustness of the data trends and gave invaluable recommendations and a way forward for dormice conservation in Wales.
